Astralis star player Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz shared a message for all those bettors who constantly blame professional CS:GO players and teams for losing bets. In a statement shared via social media on 28 Feb, dev1ce slammed these critical bettors with a witty retort and the CS:GO community applauded this straight forward and simple approach. The Danish AWPer put forth his opinion that, if bettors blame him when they lose a bet, then “where is all the money I won you...Hmmm”. The community supported him and reasoned that betting should be avoided and even if someone is partaking in such activities, then they should be ready to lose money without blaming it on any player or team.
Dev1ce shuts down bettors who blame him for their loss
Over the years betting has gripped esports and there are a lot of websites where people can go to partake in such activities. Every country has its own laws against betting-related activities and while it is legal in some places, it still does fall into a grey area as it is quite addicting and if not moderated properly can spiral out of control, leading to many negative outcomes.
Many times, esports professionals are targeted by some of these bettors on social media where they blame them for losing a bet, demean them, and sometimes even threaten them. Better the players, more frequent such instances are for them as more often than not bettors place heavy amounts on them.
Astralis who is one of the best CS:GO teams in the world had made it to the playoffs of IEM Katowice 2021, but despite being favorites to win the tournament they lost their opening bout in a thriller against Virtus.pro and this may have been a bane for many bettors. Though dev1ce did not reveal if he was being harassed, he did leave a public response for all those bettors who blame them for their loss.
In recent times, a lot of CS:GO pros have been banned for betting-related activities by ESIC (Esports Integrity Commission) especially in Australia and this has reminded everyone, especially the players of how careful they have to be when indulging in such things.
The CS:GO community praised dev1ce for his message and supported him, resounding the message that a betting loss cannot be blamed on anyone except for themselves and that one should be ready to take a loss if they want to indulge in such activities.
