The ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND CS:GO Festival 2020 came to an end on 14 Feb following the culmination of their last tournament which took place for the Middle East region. All five champions for this season of ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND have now been crowned namely, VERTEX Esports Club, Paper Rex, Wings Up Gaming, BL4ZE Esports, and Sangal Esports. While the winners have obviously dominated their respective regions, let’s shift the spotlight from them towards some of the other top performing CS:GO teams from these regions. Those who gave a stiff competition to these champions and made the tournament even more exciting with the last map thrillers.
Here are some of the most valiant teams who kept up the hustle till the very last round, making the viewing experience all the more exciting, and giving the champions a run for their money.
Valiant teams who just fell short of a victory
The Australian lineup of Bizarre Gaming had one of the most memorable runs in the entirety of ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND CS:GO Festival 2020. After dropping their opening game to Sylyx Esports, Bizarre went on to win 4 do-or-die matches in the lower bracket of Oceania region to make their way into the grand finals against VERTEX ESC.
Bizarre tried to take the series down to a decider and gave one hell of a match to VERTEX, but on the last map Overpass, they fell short slightly and had to walk away as the runners up of the Oceania region.
The Black Company
The runners-up of the ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND CS:GO Festival 2020 - East Asia regional tournament, The Black Company is the only team who reached the grand finals after making their way through the open qualifiers. This is enough to show what determination and grit the team had, to take down some of the best teams while also managing to steal a map off Wings Up Gaming in their grand final bout.
The Mongolian team was on fire but faced harsh back-to-back decider games against After Gaming and Checkmate to reach the grand finals. They were an absolute treat to watch throughout their journey.
The Indian team consisting of some known names like Defaulter and CARA were one of the direct invites for the South Asia qualifier, but no one would have expected them to give such a tough time to BL4ZE Esports in their semifinals match.
The two teams went at each other with everything that they had, the best-of-three series going down to a decider on Nuke which in itself went into double overtime. Wicked came back on Inferno and forced a decider and did not let go until the 42nd round. Though their run was limited to a semifinals finish, the way they performed was worth a standing ovation.
Feels really weird to include them on this list but NASR Esports have missed out two years in a row, coming really close but not able to win. This time once again the Emirati Esports organization clinched a ‘2-1’ victory in the semifinals and then missed out on a championship win by the same scoreline.
But it was good to watch NASR fight it out hard and not give up despite losing the first map in both the semifinals and the finals. Though they were able to convert a win on the decider against BlindTappers, Sangal proved to be a more experienced rival.
The Thai team was one of the favorites to win the tournament and despite having a flawless less run-up to the finals, they went down ‘2-1’ to lose out on the regional finals. ZIGMA took down the Filipino team Bren Esports with a clean ‘2-0’ scoreline which was big thumbs up but failed to recreate that dominating performance against Paper Rex.
These were some of the most valiant CS:GO teams who really gave a tough fight in their respective ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND 2020 regional tournaments, narrowly missing out on a win but still giving the champions a tough time. These are also the CS:GO teams to lookout for in the upcoming regional and local tournaments.
