CS:GO Players & Coaches React to Valve’s Online Coaching Ban

Valve released a whole set of rules for the upcoming ‘RMR 2021 Events’ which will act as the qualifiers for PGL Stockholm Major scheduled to take place in November later this year. One of the rules, which was outlined as a measure to maintain the integrity of competitive CS:GO observed Valve place a strict ban against coaches in online tournaments.

This particular rule became a point of contention, with many CS:GO players and coaches coming forward to criticise Valve’s decision. The CS:GO community also put forth its opinion on the matter, which did not lean towards a particular side.

Astralis’ head coach Danny "zonic" Sorensen who won the award for ‘Best Esports Coach’ at The Game Awards 2020 had a surprisingly sober reaction to the whole situation.

However, Astralis star player Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz made up for it by hitting hard with some good old fashioned mockery. He also took a friendly jab at 100 Thieves for receiving both a ‘Legendary Status’ and a ‘Sticker’, despite the organization stepping down from competitive CS:GO.

Former Cloud9 coach and now reunited with his 100 Thieves lineup under the banner of EXTREMUM, Aleksandar “kassad” Trifunovic straight up mocked Valve for indirectly punishing all the CS:GO coaches who had not cheated by calling the decision “Fair”.

Evil Geniuses coach Wilton "zews" Prado was clearly upset by Valve’s decision. He thanked everyone who abused the bug for pushing the developers to take such a drastic step, while at the same time criticizing the developers for not acknowledging their own fault in this whole situation.

Ex-Ninjas in Pyjamas coach Faruk "pita" Pita who recently after a successful appeal was able to reduce his sentence from 10-month ban to just 5.5 months, came up with a suggestion to “open up a channel for direct contact with the professional scene”.

Senior Vitality rifler Richard "shox" Papillon was also furious with this decision taken by Valve against coaches, calling it unjust and something which was literally driving him crazy.

But even amidst all this criticism and backlash, popular CS:GO talent Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill seemed to be backing Valve’s decision as he repeatedly came up with responses countering the continuous harsh criticism that flooded the internet.

Valve seems to be sticking with their decision for now and it is very unlikely that they come around to change it. Also, one very important thing which to note here is that the restriction against coaches is only limited to online Valve-sponsored tournaments. Other TO’s have not applied such a rule and neither will it be applicable at the upcoming PGL Stockholm Major 2021, which at the moment is scheduled to be a LAN tournament.
