The long-standing speculation has finally come out as an official announcement as FunPlus Phoenix announce their return to CS:GO for the 2021 competitive season. Ever since GODSENT had announced the acquisition of their old CS:GO lineup by an undisclosed organization, word had broken out that FunPlus Phoenix was the buyer.

The lineup is still not complete though with one more player left to round out the team. HLTV has reported that “The lineup is in the process of trialing a new in-game leader while the organization is negotiating his transfer”.

This means that the new player which is set to join them has already started practicing with the lineup till his transfer officially gets negotiated upon. Though there is speculation connecting mousesports veteran ChrisJ with the FPX roster, nothing can be said for sure at the moment.

Further information from HLTV reveals that FPX had been in talks with multiple organizations and individual players before finalizing this deal with GODSENT. Devilwalk speaking about the team’s goal for the 2021 season said that,

“For us, 2020 has been a real development year. It has been the time where we have integrated into the top tier scene of CS:GO, and in 2021 we are bringing much clearer ambitions to reach higher to really compete within tier one CS."

FunPlus Phoenix will be seen in action day after tomorrow on 27 Jan as they are set to make their debut with DreamHack Open January 2021 Europe. The $70,000 USD tournament will observe a total of 8 teams competing at the event, featuring teams like EG, BIG, Gambit, forZe, and more.
