- ZywOo has beaten s1mple to become the best CS:GO player of 2020.
- Despite a close match between them when it comes to overall statistics, ZywOo managed to grab the edge on the back of his consistency and impact.
- With this ZywOo has become the youngest CS:GO player to win the top spot two years in a row.
The highly anticipated results are out as the French AWPer Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut beats the Ukrainian star Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev for the second year in a row, to become the best CS:GO player of 2020 as per the HLTV rankings.
The entire CS:GO community had waited for this day ever since the last tournament of 2020 concluded. There was a lot of debate between the fans of the two players with multiple opinions being formed around the topic. Each tried to prove their own point by highlighting a specific statistic or creating a sandbox scenario.
Finally, the hammer comes down with verdict going in the favour of ZywOo who was also the ‘Best CS:GO Player of 2019’. This is the second time that the 20-year-old has beaten s1mple who has nearly missed the top spot twice since achieving it in 2018.
ZywOo beats s1mple to the first place rat race
Vitality was ecstatic to celebrate ZywOo being crowned as the best CS:GO player in the world for the second time in a row. The French organization in December last year had extended ZywOo’s contract by four years till the end of 2024 and it can not get better for them.
They took a conscious decision to make ZywOo the team’s fulcrum and keep building an effective lineup around him, enabling the team to draw out his maximum potential while giving him the right structure to both win and excel.
Though the city of Paris was not illuminated with any sort of holograms this time around, Vitality did present a montage showcasing some of ZywOo’s best plays from 2020. He is also the youngest CS:GO player in the history of Counter-Strike to have placed first two years in a row, joining veteran players like Marcelo "coldzera" David and Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund.
It was a tough defeat for s1mple who despite having a better KPR, Surviving Rate, and Overall Rating, fell marginally short when compared to ZywOo who had a better ADR, Impact Score, and Consistency. While all the stats had a marginal difference, the main gap was witnessed in the fact that ZywOo has placed top-four in more tournaments with Vitality than s1mple with Na’Vi.
S1mple did go on to drop a motivational statement like his usual self stating that he could have done better but for him, the focus for 2021 remains to be making Na’Vi the best CS:GO team in the world.
With the competitive scene for 2021 already starting off with BLAST Premier: Global Final 2020. It will be interesting to see how intense does the competition continue to be in-between these two kings of Counter-Strike.
