Following VERTEX Esports Club’s victory in Oceania region, the tournament continued on with eight of the best Southeast Asian teams ready to face off against each other for a $1,500 USD prize pool. The event which took place over the course of the weekend from 8th-10th January witnessed 4 invited teams go up against 4 teams making their way through the open qualifiers.

These eight teams played in a single-elimination best-of-three tournament with Paper Rex fighting hard to walk away as the winners of the tournament, becoming the champions of the SEA region while also claiming a prize of $1,000 USD.

Their journey started off with a derby match where they went up against Huat Zai, with both the teams hailing from Singapore and a few former teammates ready to take on each other this was a high stakes match for both the sides. Unfortunately, Huat Zai could not find their footing as they went on to lose the series ‘2-0’.

The fight put up by Paper Rex was quite amazing, as despite using Harley “dsn” Orwall as a substitute in place of Kumersan “Tommy” Ramani the team did not seem to suffer in any of the departments. However, the team made sure to bring back the proper lineup for their next match and this turned out to be a great decision because Beyond was a tough opposition to go up against.

Losing their own map ‘Nuke’, the pressure was on Paper Rex but slowly and steadily they fought through ‘Inferno’ and made their way down to the last map ‘Train’. They went on to win the series ‘2-1’ to reach the grand final against the Thai team of ZIGMA. Once again Paper Rex lost their opening game and was under pressure from the start, the next two games were intense as they made their way through the grueling sessions to finally come out on top as the winners of ZOWIE eXTREMESLAND CS:GO Festival 2020: SEA.
