  • CS:GO developers pay tribute to late basketball player Kobe Bryant through operation Broken Fang.
  • There is a weapon loadout named 'Kobe!' in the recently launched retake game mode.
  • The loadout consists of HE grenade, a helmet, and an armour.

The latest operation Broken Fang which released a few days back brought it a lot of content like new maps, hundreds of weapon skins, more agents, and other such in-game items. This engaged the entire CS:GO community who immediately started checking out all the skins, figuring out the maps, reporting the bugs, and finding the Easter eggs.

In this process, the community found out that Valve had actually paid tribute to a few personalities including the late legendary basketball player Kobe Bryant who died in a tragic helicopter crash earlier this year.

The developers have done a really great job with the tenth operation that released last week and the community is thoroughly enjoying it, no wonder it had the second most sales on Steam last week just behind Cyberpunk 2077.

Broken Fang released both top quality content and excellent Easter eggs, some of which were truly heartwarming and caught the community off guard. Just imagine jumping into a game of the recently launched retake game mode and coming across a weapon loadout called ‘Kobe!’, won’t you be taken aback by surprise!

Well, this is Valve’s way of paying tribute to the legendary basketball player who died in January earlier this year. The loadout specific to the retake game mode is named after the player and consists of just an HE grenade, a helmet, and an armour.

Why this loadout has these specific items is because in any shooter whenever a player gets a kill by throwing a grenade it is generally referred to as a ‘Kobe’, based on the player’s proficiency to shoot two and three-pointers with great accuracy.

The community really enjoyed this particular Easter egg with a user stating that “I love seeing Valve embracing the community and making it an official bit of the game” while another remarked that “Nade kills will always be 'Kobe!' RIP.”

In fact, this was not the only tribute that Valve had placed in the form of an Easter egg. Here are a few other personalities that Valve had mentioned in some form or the other in Broken Fang.

  • CS:GO developers embraced the iconic Molotov suicide moment that Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar had committed which coined the iconic phrase ‘1g’. So they created another retake game mode weapon loadout titled ‘1g’ which consists of a helmet, an armour, a defuse kit, and a Molotov.

  • One of the new agents released with Broken Fang named "SWAT | Cmdr. Mae ‘Dead Cold’ Jamison" is a tribute to Mae C. Jemison, who was the first African American female astronaut to go into space.

  • Valve also remembered the popular CS:GO streamer Trevor ‘McSkillet’ Heitmann who had died two years ago in a wrong-way road crash in North America as his logo was spotted all across the new CS:GO map ‘Engage’ which was released along with Broken Fang.
