FaZe Clan’s CS:GO team has been going through bit of a rough patch as they recently lost their star player and in-game leader Nikola “NiKo” Kovac in October to G2 Esports, in a deal which was called ‘one of the biggest signings in CS:GO history’. While their search for a fifth permanent player goes on one of FaZe Clan’s owners Yousef “Apex” Abdelfattah recently revealed that there was a point of time when one of the best CS:GO players in the world Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev was almost going to join them.
It seems that the rumours that had sparked off in late 2018 were indeed true when numerous speculations were being made that s1mple might be leaving Natus Vincere to join FaZe Clan. At the time s1mple had straight-up dismissed any such move, but it seems that there was definitely some sort of a discussion that had taken place between him and FaZe.
According to FaZe Apex “There was a point of time when he was almost going to join FaZe as well. Like there was actually a real discussion, but due to business reasons it just did not end up happening.”
He goes to say that s1mple had actually reached out to a FaZe member and “he really wanted to join FaZe”. Even the organization was interested in him “there was mutual interest” but in the end, it just did not end up working out.
FaZe Clan is in a tight spot at the moment as the North American organization recently lost their star player NiKo who had been with them for more than 3 years. For now, Marcelo “coldzera” David has taken on the role of an in-game leader while Olof “olofmeister” Gustafsson has come out of his break to stand-in for the team, as the organization searches for a fifth player.
But imagine for a moment if that deal would have worked out, FaZe Clan could have been a real strong contender today a much better version of what they are now. Back then Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz in an interview had stated that if rumours about s1mple moving to FaZe were true “it would be a really sick team.”
