With IEM Katowice 2020 about to enter the Playoffs, ESL is making preparations for the next phase of the tournament which will be played at the Spodek Arena amid coronavirus pandemic. In order to detect and curb the spread of the virus, ESL has gone ahead and updated their health and safety guidelines, working with local authorities to add additional precautionary measures for everyone attending the event.

There will be ‘health screenings’ along with ‘temperature checks at entryways’ for all those attending the event. The attendees will also be educated on personal health and safety while undergoing ‘potential interviews’ before entering the venue. In addition to this ‘medical professionals’ and ‘additional sanitation stations’ will also be available onsite.

All the players, press and special guests that are attending the tournament from high-risk areas have already been ensured as they hold a valid health certificate as directed by ESL.

Earlier, ViCi Gaming who won the Asian qualifier for the tournament had to be replaced by TYLOO, due to a player not getting his visa on time because of the spreading virus. A lot of other esports tournaments have also been rescheduled or canceled because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

The respiratory infection which was declared as a global health emergency on 30th January by WHO has spread to at least 44 countries, infected more than 80,000 people and claimed nearly 2,900 lives till now.
