Astralis head coach, Danny “zonic” Sørensen, who was nominated for the title of ‘Best Esports Coach’ by The Game Awards 2019, has gone on to claim the award. With Astralis participating in BLAST Pro Series: Global Finals 2019, he couldn’t make it to the presentation ceremony, which was held in Los Angeles.
It has been another fantastic year for the Danish giants, Astralis. The team went on to win both the Katowice and the Berlin Major, registering three consecutive CS:GO Major victories and their fourth overall. Crossing Fnatic, to hold the title of ‘Most Majors Won by a Team’ in the history of counter-strike.
And all this was achieved under the guidance of their star coach, zonic. He has been the pillar who has supported the team through thick and thin, it wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns for Astralis, as they went through a rough patch right in the middle of 2019. Where they conceded their rank one spot to Team Liquid, but it under the watchful eyes of zonic that Astralis came back thundering to win the Berlin Major, and claim their lost glory.
Sørensen recently even released a book titled “Hjernen Bag Astralis” which translated to “The Brain Behind Astrals”, in which he goes on to talk about his journey as a player and a coach, while also touching upon the rapidly growing esports market.
This is not the first award that the 33-year-old Danish has won this year. He also bagged the title of “Coach of the Year” at the 2019 Esports Awards. And if the category is there as a part of other award ceremonies, I guess there might be a few more coming his way.
It has been a great year for Astralis and a huge chunk of this success is due to the man guiding them from behind, paving the way ahead for them, ready to support them when they crumble. Let’s see how the Danes perform at BPS: Global Finals 2019 and how well does zonic do in giving Astralis a good start in 2020.
