Mousesports had a lot to celebrate about after their ‘2-1’ victory over Evil Geniuses in the quarterfinals of ESL Pro League Season 10 - Finals, which included a ‘16-0’ scoreline on Nuke where the European mix straight-up embarrassed EG, who were not able to take a single round off them.
But the celebrations were soon replaced by surprise as the players had to undergo a drug test right after they won the three-game series. Mousesports themselves put up a story on Instagram showing Ozgur “woxic” Eker, the star of the series, with a swab in his mouth undergoing an oral drug test.
Chris “chrisJ” de Jong and Robin “ropz” Kool also took to their personal Instagram to put up a story of themselves taking the oral drug test. ChrisJ on a sarcastic tone wrote “16-0 against EG to win 2-1...now they drug testing us smh. Where is the trust in the world?”
While it might seem a bit out of place for a team to take a drug test just because they won by a huge margin or did something which is so very rare, it is actually not that uncommon, with MIBR players Epitácio "TACO" de Melo and Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, having had faced a similar drug test in the past after a ‘16-4’ victory aginst Cloud9 at ESL One: New York 2017.
More recently Miikka “suNny” Kemppi had also undergone a drug test last year during ESL Pro League Season 7 - Finals, coincidentally at the time he was playing for mousesports, and despite having a terrible time at the tournament had to undergo the test.
In the same tournament, Astralis star player Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz was another player who had to undergo a drug test following the Danish teams ‘2-0’ victory over SK Gaming in the group stage.
So the drug test wasn’t something out of the blue that players of mousesports underwent, but it is always a bit unnerving when such a thing takes place. The test seems to have been cleared, as nothing has been reported by any of the parties involved at the time of writing this article
Mousesports was phenomenal on Nuke, the deciding map of the series. They started off on the CT-side and wreaked havoc on EG, they gave nothing away, ending the map with a flawless sixteen round run, and wrapped up the series in their favour to move on to the semifinals where they will be facing off against Astralis.
