The third day of IEM Beijing 2019 started off with the Playoffs witnessing Vitality go up against 100Thieves in the first semifinals of the day. The intense three-game series came to an end with 100Thieves turning their fate around a full 360 as the Aussies clawed their way back into the series to secure a slot in the grand finals.
100Thieves - Slugging it through to the Finals
The series started off with Vitality taking down 100THieves on their own map pick Mirage. A map on which the Australian line-up usually performs quite well is also one of the maps where ZywOo likes to hunt. But this time he was not alone as the entire squad played their roles perfectly to take an early advantage in the series.
100Thieves certainly under pressure were not washed out yet as they gave Vitality a fitting reply on Nuke. None of the teams was able to chain rounds in their favour as they brawled it out round after round, exchanging blows with Vitality taking the lead at the half time mark. With a failed CT-sided play, 100 Thieves needed a miracle to see them through to the decider map, and what followed was unbelievable.
Vitality despite their best efforts was not able to take the map into overtime as 100Thieves didn’t only take the lead but secured the map as well, all thanks to jks and jkaem who carried their team through some really tough situations.
Down to the final game on Inferno, Vitality was all of a sudden out of steam, only managing to secure two round in their favour with their T-sided gameplay, as 100Thieves crushed them ‘16-2’ to walk away with the map, along with the series.
With this, 100Thieves secure themselves a slot in the grand finals, waiting to see who makes it through the second semifinal to face off against them.
It surely was not an easy series for the NA org, as they climbed their way through a ‘1-0’ deficit to claim victory in a fitting style, crushing Vitality on Inferno and showing that they are a refined tier-one team who don’t buckle under pressure.
