Highly popular massive multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) Ragnarok developed by Gravity has partnered with popular Metaverse platform ‘The Sandbox’ to bring an immersive experience of the game to its users. Ragnarok online is one of the most popular IPs of Gravity that is available on both PC and Mobile. The game also has licenses for various entities including animations, online store and more, along with their various intellectual properties such as Ragnarok Origin, Ragnarok M: Eternal love and more

According to the announcement, Ragnarok LAND will be built on The Sandbox and will host various NFTs and content that utilizes the Ragnarok IP. This partnership will also allow players to participate within a Game Jam with the characters from Ragnarok.

We are happy to collaborate with Ragnarok, which has been long loved by gamers all around the world,” said Cindy Lee, CEO of The Sandbox Korea. “Through this partnership, the excitement and joy that Ragnarok brings to players can be adapted in a new way through metaverse content.”

“This partnership is significant that the users around the world can encounter Ragnarok in The Sandbox metaverse,” said Harry Choi, Business Director of Gravity Business Division. “We are preparing diverse content with Ragnarok IP for users to enjoy in the metaverse as well. Stay tuned!”

Pushing Web3 forward

This partnership is pushing the Metaverse and Web3 gaming forward. Gravity is not the only company that is foraying into the Web3 space. Netmarble signed a partnership with Binance to develop blockchain-based products and we even witnessed Anicube Ent that also partnered up with The Sandbox to bring K-culture to the Metaverse.

Ragnarok has an estimated 9 thousand daily players and an estimated total of 953K players throughout its lifetime. This huge and devoted fan base will have a newer and more immersive experience on the Metaverse. This will open the door for new players to enter and experience the space with a familiar IP and expand their knowledge and maybe be introduced to the world of Web3 gaming and the Metaverse

This opens the door for more mainstream gaming companies to enter the Web3 space, we have seen recent developers such as Square Enix entering the space but this decision does come with criticism as many developers and creators are going the other way to avoid or ban the industry such as Minecraft.
