Over the last few years, the potential of Web3 games has become abundantly clear. Many users and corporations worldwide consider it to be the natural evolution of traditional gaming. Although there are ample projects in the market, almost none of them have come close to the popularity of the Sandbox.

The Sandbox game was originally launched on mobile and Windows platforms in 2012 but after its acquisition by Animoca Brands in 2018, it underwent a massive revolution. Today, the Sandbox primarily functions as an open metaverse where users can socialize, interact and build experiences on top of LAND – a virtual piece of real estate in the Sandbox metaverse. Inside the Sandbox metaverse, users and creators are given the option to use their non-fungible tokens (NFTs) as a source of income either by building experiences like games and exhibitions on it or by trading them in the Sandbox marketplace.

What can you do in the Sandbox?

The vast and immersive metaverse of the Sandbox is user-generated. This means that users can do anything they wish in the metaverse provided they have enough resources. For example, they can create their own labyrinths, games, and exhibitions, and can even host parties. This is also a huge advantage for developers who are looking to venture into the Web3 gaming segment. The Sandbox has already partnered with popular brands such as Adidas, Atari, The Smurfs, and even famous rapper Snoop Dogg. With this, the Sandbox has gained immense popularity both in terms of Play-to-Earn gaming and business.

How can you earn in the Sandbox?

To increase user involvement in the Sandbox metaverse, developers introduced two important tools – VoxEdit and Game Maker. Using these tools, users can create objects and experiences inside the metaverse and monetize these aspects.

VoxEdit

Sandbox is a voxel-based metaverse where all in-game objects and NFTs are based on the voxel-pattern. Voxel refers to a three-dimensional pixel. Using the VoxEdit tool, creators and artists can construct assets that can be used as an avatar or as in-game entities. Assets can range from static decorations to interactable objects and can also include NPCs. Creators can list these assets on the Sandbox Marketplace for a pre-determined price. Users buying these assets can also sell them on secondary marketplaces for $SAND or $ETH.

Game Maker

Game Maker is a free-to-use tool in the Sandbox metaverse. Using this tool, players can create and share their own games. A huge benefit of this tool is that prior technical knowledge is not required. This means users, regardless of their background, can create games and experiences. However, after creating a game, users will need a LAND to publish it onto. Players can then charge a fee from other users if they wish to play or can sell these games as independent assets.

Sandbox Marketplace

Using Sandbox Marketplace, players can trade various in-game assets. These include LAND, voxel objects and avatars. Users can buy these objects and can later sell them on secondary marketplaces to earn some profit. Although this may require some initial investment, a lot of users who do not wish to design games and avatars opt for this method.

Liquidity Mining

$SAND is the utility token inside the Sandbox metaverse. Liquidity mining includes staking your $SAND tokens in various pools like SAND-ETH (Ethereum), mSAND-MATIC (Polygon), and mSAND (Polygon). By providing liquidity in these pools, users can earn $SAND tokens.
