Dragonest, the team behind Dota Auto Chess is working on their own MOBA. The team will be creating the new mobile MOBA Using the same items and characters that players had access to in their auto-battler. The company has also inspired a number of other games including Teamfight Tactics and Dota Underlords.
What’s in Store for Players from Dragonest?
According to the Dragonest team, their work on Auto Chess allowed them to "define a brand-new competitive game genre which is the auto battler as we know it." They want to expand their IP and create a mobile MOBA that will compete with games like Wild Rift in the esports scene. They talked about their first mobile MOBA ‘Fight for Freedom’ which released in 2015 and revealed that the game did not do very well at the time. But with the newfound success that they have experienced in the past few years, they are confident that their new MOBA will find its place in the current gaming market.
Dota Auto Chess made use of the Dota 2 client as well as its items and units to create chess pieces. With Valve deciding to get involved in the project, Dragonest and the Dota 2 devs decided to part ways to create their own versions of the game. Valve created Dota Underlords while Dragonest named their games Auto Chess and made no changes to the characters and items but renamed them in the process.
Characters that were birthed in the Auto Chess will also be a part of the upcoming MOBA that the team is working on. The new MOBA will also feature a mechanic that will involve the day and night system seen usually in RPGs. Daylight will improve visibility while being the dark will obscure player vision. These are classic features from Dota 2, and it is something Dragonest wants to adopt.
The game will be free to play with pay-to-win strategies to keep the game fair for all players. Pokemon is also working on a MOBA that is being developed by Tencent and Timi Studios. The closed beta will commence sometime this month and it will be restricted to China only before being rolled out to other regions. Wild Rift is rolling out across some regions, and the mobile MOBA landscape is shaping up to be very competitive in the near future.
