Riot Games Announces Their Plans for Wild Rift Esports

With the success of Wild Rift, an esports scene is bound to happen sooner or later. As the game slowly rolls out to different regions, Riot Games is brewing up some surprises for competitive players. They recently shared their plans regarding the esports scene for Wild Rift.

Wild Rift Esports for Southeast Asia

Riot Games gave us a glimpse of what they have in mind regarding the esports scene for Wild Rift. Recently, they announced their commitment to bringing esports into the game for players around the world. 

While the devs are getting busy preparing the game and making it accessible to more regions, Riot Games already made plans to host competitive esports across Southeast Asia. 

“Like League PC, Wild Rift is wildly competitive, with the depth, complexity, and high-stakes moments that make for a great sport,” said John Needham, Head of Global Esports at Riot Games, “While it’s still incredibly early, we’re excited to bring our passion and dedication for esports to mobile.”

In Southeast Asia, the season will kick off with several small competitive events through March. Sometime in April, eight location-specific tournament circuits will be held where teams will compete for the title of local champions. These local champions will have a chance to battle it out with other local champions and prove they are the strongest team in Southeast Asia. 

As announced last year, Riot Games have already partnered with various esports organizations to host various esports tournaments across Southeast Asia. They plan on starting off with smaller events to serve as a way to promote and discover talented teams for each region. Future plans include collegiate tournaments and professional esports events.

Wild Rift Welcomes North and South America

Recently, Riot Games announced that they are preparing on releasing the game for North and South American fans sometime in March. Due to the late arrival of the game in that region, the devs are working on a way for players to acquire champions at a faster rate as compensation. 

This is just the beginning of a long journey for Wild Rift. With the doors soon to open for North and South America, more competitive teams would hop in and make Wild Rift esports bigger and better.
