PUBG Mobile 2.0 Reportedly Under Development

PUBG Mobile was released worldwide on March 19, 2018. Since then it has revolutionized the gaming and esports industry as a whole with its immense popularity, becoming one of the torch bearers of mobile esports with multi-million dollar prize pools and premier tournaments held across the world.

Currently, it is by far the most successful mobile game, generating nearly $2.6 billion in revenue in 2020 according to a report by Sensor Tower. However, it looks like it is going to evolve even more in the coming months.

Reports from Korean media portal MTN as well as popular PUBG data leaker ‘PlayerIGN’ suggest that the game’s developer Krafton Inc. is working on a sequel to PUBG Mobile.

PUBG Mobile 2.0 is reportedly in development

According to an exclusive report from MTN published in November 2020, Krafton has been developing a new game titled 'Project XTRM.' since May 2020. 

"From the first half of last year, PUBG has been developing a new mobile game called 'Project XTRM' based on the Battle Royale genre. It is likely the concept of PUBG Mobile 2.0”

The report also mentioned the development of a successor to the PC/Console version of the game titled PUBG 2.0

Earlier today, PlayerIGN claimed that this new game: ‘Project XTRM’ was PUBG Mobile 2 all along.

He also alleged that the game was likely going to be a cross-platform game that could be played on PC, console, and mobile devices. He also added that another separate game: PUBG 2.0, a PC-Console cross-platform game, is also in development.

Different Versions of PUBG and PUBG Mobile

PUBG has already been released in various iterations over the years. It was first released as a PC-only game in March 2017 and quickly became one of the most played games in the world. Soon after, a mobile version of the game, titled PUBG Mobile was released worldwide on March 19, 2018. Xbox One and PS4 versions of the title were also released in 2018.

Following this, PUBG Lite, a free version of the game that is meant to provide a better gaming experience on low-end computers was released in January 2019.

Various versions of PUBG Mobile including separate versions for Korea and Japan, Vietnam, Taiwan, and China (Game for Peace) have also since been released. PUBG Mobile India is also ready to be released and is believed to be pending a formal approval by the Indian government.


It will be interesting to see what PUBG Mobile 2.0 brings to the table when it finishes its development cycle and releases worldwide.
