MLBB: Chess-TD Game Mode is Back

The Winter Gala event in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) is at its peak. The game is currently giving away a lot of free skins for their players. Along with the free skin events, an old game mode that players might be familiar with is making a comeback. Chess-TD is coming back in the game for a limited time. Players will be able to enjoy this game mode from Dec. 26 until Jan. 11, 2021.

The Return of Chess-TD in MLBB

The official Facebook page of MLBB has posted an announcement that the popular game mode, Chess - TD, is back for a limited time. This made fans who are familiar with the game mode excited and nostalgic. 

What is Chess - TD

The game mode is a combination of the popular auto-chess and tower defense. Unlike the regular game mode of MLBB, where you fight as a team, you fly solo and compete with 5 other players. 

You will have no control over your heroes when the battle starts, but you can position your heroes and think of a strategy to outplay your opponents during the preparation phase. 

How to Play Chess - TD

The game mode is round-based. Every round has a preparation phase where you can buy and upgrade your units. You can then place your units on your side of the battlefield. 

Upgrades:

Being ahead in level is an advantage. Your hero capacity upgrades as the game progress, but you can immediately upgrade it using gold to buy experience. You start with 2 unit slots, which can be upgraded up to 9 slots. 

You can upgrade your units by buying the same units during the preparation phase. Three duplicates are required to reach level 2. Nine units are required to reach level three, the maximum level. You can also use three of the level 2 duplicates to upgrade your unit to max level. 

Gameplay

You gain gold each round regardless of where you win or not. You can use it to upgrade your units and prepare for the next round. 

The shop offers a selection of units at random. The shop refreshes each round unless you lock it. You can manually refresh the shop for two gold coins. Gold is important in this game, so it is best to wait for the next round.

Managing your income is a must in this game. Sometimes, having more units can also be as beneficial as having max level heroes. 

Roles and Factions

There are 10 roles and 12 factions in the game mode. Deploying units with the same roles or factions enhances their stats, giving you an advantage. The possibilities are endless. For example, a group of 3 mages will increase their damage by 40%. If you have 6 mages in your field, the damage further amplifies to 130%. 

The key to winning the game is to be mindful of your resources and build an army that benefits from each other rather than strong random units without matching roles and factions.

While many players wanted Chess - TD to stay in MLBB, this game mode will only be available for a limited time until Jan. 11, 2021. Considering that Moonton is putting so much effort into making the game mode balanced and introducing ranked mode for it, there is a possibility that the devs might be planning on making it a permanent game mode in the future.
