The Esports Awards is one of the most prestigious prizes in esports. This edition of the esports awards is the first in which categories based on Mobile Gaming were added. The two categories that were added to this year’s Esports Awards were the Mobile Esports Player of the Year 2020 and the Mobile Esports Game of the year award. PUBG Mobile professional BTR Zuxxy and Garena Free Fire won these two categories respectively.
The Mobile Esports Player of the Year 2020: Zuxxy
Zuxxy, PUBG Mobile Star from Indonesia, and a member of the Bigetron Red Aliens won the Mobile Player of the Year Award. He’s had a fantastic year as one of the top players in the PUBG Mobile professional scene. He had showcased some brilliant performances at the PUBG Mobile World League 2020 East and several other top tier tournaments cementing his place at the top of the esport. In his acceptance speech, Zuxxy thanked his family, teammates, and the staff of Bigetron Esports. He also said thanks to his fans for supporting him through thick and thin. He also stated that he hoped more Indonesian esports players could come out and represent their country on the global stage.
The Mobile Game of the year 2020: Free Fire
Free Fire, a game developed and published by Garena won the Mobile Game of the Year award. The game has been extremely popular around the mobile gaming community and has garnered over 500 Million downloads on the Google Play Store.
According to a report from Sensor Tower, the game accumulated 220 million downloads in the first three quarters of 2020 alone. Free Fire's fast-paced gameplay and compatibility with low-end smartphones are some of the reasons for making it so popular, especially in Asia.
Both Free Fire and PUBG Mobile have shared intense rivalry over the years. This year, Free Fire won the battle against PUBG Mobile in gaining the Mobile Game of the Year Award.
