PUBG Mobile Esports Announce Major Expansion In 2021

PUBG Mobile Esports is undergoing some big changes heading into 2021. Earlier today, at the Esports Awards 2020 expo, James Yang, Director of PUBG Mobile Global Esports presented a keynote which revealed a few details about the upcoming esports season.

Yang revealed PUBG Mobile's plans of expansion of the PMPL and PMCO circuit to include several new countries across the world, making it one of the largest esports circuits in the industry. He also elaborated on the format and other future plans of the company.

PUBG Mobile Esports To Expand Massively in 2021

After a successful year in 2020 that saw nearly 100 million hours watched so far, over a million concurrent viewers tuning into the competitions, and more than 120,000 teams registering to compete, PUBG Mobile revealed huge plans for the upcoming 2021 season.

New PMCO and PMPL Regions:

Already the largest esports ecosystem in the world, the 2021 program will see seven new PMPL regions in CIS, Turkey, Western Europe, Arabia, North America, Latin America, and Brazil. These will complement existing PMPLs in South Asia and Southeast Asia. 

The PMCO will also see additional regions including the UK, France, UAE, Africa, Bangladesh, Nepal and Mexico, and more to reveal. 

Format of the 2021 Season:

Similar to 2020, the PMCOs and PMPLs will be split into two seasons, with the PMGC at the end of the year. Registration for the PMCO Spring Split will open on January 1st 2021 and close on January 24th.

A hugely expanded global program, alongside the new PMPL and PMCO regions, the ecosystem will also introduce exciting PUBG Mobile Invitationals which will take place in summer, hosted by top pro teams.

Plans To Build New Studios and Expand Viewership in the West

PUBG Mobile has also stated that it will also focus on building more studios with ESL and VSPN. The company will build satellite studios in key countries around the world. In 2020, the first PUBG MOBILE esports studio was built in Katowice, Poland. 

This is part of PUBG Mobile's efforts of additional focus on Western regions to bring interest and viewership at par with the East.

It was also announced that PUBG Mobile will be revealing the total prize pool for 2021 at the beginning of the PMGC. The PMGC kicks off on November 24th. The tournament features 24 professional PUBG Mobile teams from all over the world competing for the lion’s share of a whopping $2 Million USD prize pool (Currently, the biggest prize pool in mobile esports history).
