Riot Games announced that the open beta of League of Legends: Wild Rift will soon be available to players from eight more regions. Taiwan, Oceania, and Vietnam will get access to the open beta on December 7th. Europe, Middle East, Russia and CIS, North Africa and Turkey will get access on December 10th.

The upcoming open beta will feature “several” new champions from the League of Legends roster, new features, and balance changes. Riot Games has not yet revealed which champions are making it to Wild Rift this December. The developers have promised more details will be offered on December 7th.

Americas will receive the open beta in spring 2021, which means the actual release of the game is farther away than what most players expected. So far, we have had regional open betas in South Korea, Indonesia, and Japan.

League of Legends has always been a top MOBA, but it never broke into the mobile space. There is stiff competition from the likes of Arena of Valor, Vainglory, and Onmyoji Arena. This is not the first time Riot Games is breaking into the mobile esports space. Both Teamfight Tactics and Legends of Runeterra are by Riot, and have growing esports scenes. Wild Rift will finally offer hardcore League of Legends fans to play on their phones after years of staying away from mobile gaming. Riot is also working on an upcoming game titled “Ruined King” which is scheduled for an early 2021 release.

Wild Rift is Riot’s reimagination of League of Legends for the mobile audience. Riot Games has rebuilt the game for mobile devices instead of opting for a port. Popular champions and skins available in League of Legends will be moved to Wild Rift over time. Riot is working on a gameplay loop designed to make matches last around 15 minutes. It will follow the same MOBA mechanics as its PC counterpart but on a smaller map and touch-friendly controls. The game is free-to-play and will the monetised via cosmetics.

It is currently unknown when Wild Rift will be making it to Indian shores. Multiple Tencent games have been banned in India, and we do not know if the Indian government will allow the upcoming title. However, League of Legends has not been banned despite Riot’s ties with Tencent and there is a chance that the game will be overlooked. Some players have been successful in playing the beta using VPNs, which is currently the only way to try the game before release. But playing it on an emulator might get you banned because Wild Rift does not allow third-party apps as of now.
