Thai teams dominate the Finals as the PMCO Fall SEA Qualifiers come to an end

The South East Asian qualifier finals for the PMCO Fall Split saw 16 teams fight tooth and nail over two days to prove their dominance in the region, but as the dust settles, it seems as if the home teams from Thailand have edged out their competition. Despite dominating the entire League stage and day 1 of the competition, Indonesia’s Bigetron Esports slipped down to 6th place at the end of day 2. However, they will get a chance to play in the Prelims along with MEGA.Conqueror and Orange Esports.CG.

Elsewhere, RRQ Athena bagged the top spot in the SEA Finals, after a blistering day 2 performance and will represent the region for the second time in a row in the PMCO main event. Joining them with be Illuminate, who have shown incredible consistency over the league stage and the finals.

Only 3 teams pick up chicken dinners on day 2, compared to the six on day 1 which does indicate teams have been putting in more work in between days to learn and improve on the go.

Orange secures back-to-back WWCD to start off day 2

Orange Esports bounced back after a lackluster performance on day 1 and the entirety of the league stage to pick up consecutive wins on Sanhok and Erangel, followed by a second place finish on Miramar. This allowed them to pick up the bulk of their points that sees them in the top 5.

RRQ Athena step up the heat to win 3 in a row

Having already played on the international stage, multiple times, RRQ Athena have established themselves as the legends of SEA. Although they have lacked some of the momentum in recent weeks, day 2 of the SEA Finals showed just how good this team actually can be, when the pressure is on. The team lapped up 3 consecutive wins on Miramar, Vikendi and Erangel and opened up an unassailable lead between them and the other teams. Despite timid performances in the last two maps, their mid day surge was too hot for other teams to handle and RRQ Athena finished the competition as the champions of SEA.

Late surge allows Illuminate to blindside the others

Having been on the backseat for the majority of the Finals stage, Illuminate only managed two top 3 finishes by the time the 12th map started. But the Thai side, who were one spot shy of qualifying last season, stepped up their game when it really mattered picking up chicken dinners in the last two maps and a second place in the one before that. Their 17 kill chicken dinner on Erangel is the highest kills for a team on a single map in the Finals stage. The last three maps allowed Illuminate to open up a big lead between them and third placed MEGA.Conqueror and they will join their fellow countrymen, RRQ Athena at the main event in December.

MEGA.Conqueror and Orange Esports.CG qualify to the Prelims courtesy of their top 5 finish but unfortunately EVOS Esports won’t share the same fate. Despite finishing in 5th place, the team has to give their Prelims slot to Bigetron Esports, whose top three finish at the League stage guarantees them a spot in the Prelims.
