Valorant vs CS: GO Ranking System: Dfferences Between the Two FPS Titles
  • Valorant Ranking System vs CS: GO Ranking System have significant differences with performance based MMR being the biggest differentiator between the two.
  • CS:GO's ranking system is more linear compared to Valorant while Riot Games has implemented performance-based gains and tier demotion protection for Valorant.
  • Overall, Riot Games' system takes more time to climb while but is more rewarding for skilled players due to performance-based gains.

Valorant’s ranking system and CS:GO’s ranking system have a lot of similarities but are easily differentiable with how ranked progression works. One of the biggest differences between the two is that performance matters heavily in Valorant’s ranking system compared to CS:GO’s ranking system. If you play very well and lose a match, you will not lose too much MMR. However, CS:GO’s ranking system is more consistent with its MMR gains and losses. Here is an in-depth rundown of Valorant’s Ranking System and a comparison with CS:GO’s ranking system.

CS:GO Ranking System: How it Works

CS:GO’s ranking system starts with Silver 1 and goes all the way up to Global Elite. Global Elite is the equivalent of Valorant ranking system’s Radiant. The average rank of most CS:GO players is Gold Nova but it takes a long time until you are eligible to play ranked. Players need to reach level two by playing standard game modes before getting access to the ranked playlist. You can play Deathmatch, Demolition, Arms Race, and Casual to level up your account.

You will have to play a total of 10 games before a rank is assigned to you. The system is similar to Valorant and other competitive FPS games. When you first play ranked, you will find yourself playing against players of varying skill levels and you will be placed in the rank the game thinks you belong in. Performance matters a lot in these matches and even if you win all matches and play poorly, you may be placed in Silver.

Valorant Ranking System: How it Works

Unlike CS:GO ranking system, Valorant’s ranking system starts at Iron and goes all the way up to Radiant which is CS:GO’s equivalent of Global Elite. Performance based ELO plays a major role in the game and in addition to your wins or losses, your performance affects your MMR gains and dips too. The majority of the playerbase plays in high Silver and Low Gold.

Just like CS:GO you have to be level 20 before you can play Ranked. Once you are able to queue ranked, you will be required to play placement matches before being assigned a rank. Individual performance plays a much bigger role than CS:GO when it comes to placements.

Valorant Ranking System vs CS: GO Ranking System: Differences

The biggest difference between CS:GO and Valorant is their MMR system. Even if you find yourself in a losing streak in Valorant, as long as you are playing well you will not de-rank quickly. Whenever you gain a new rank in Valorant you also get tier protection to prevent you from instantly de-ranking if you lose your next few matches.

CS:GO’s ranking system is less complicated but it can prove to be more difficult to climb in because of the lack of performance-based MMR. There are fewer tiers to climb in CS:GO as well which can prove to be a smaller time investment compared to Valorant.
