  • Asmongold announced that he will be taking a break from streaming for an indefinite period of time.
  • Most online forums discussed his recent streams where fans were hostile towards him for streaming rust.
  • Other streamers also face similar toxicity when transitioning out of their favourite games.

Asmongold is one of the biggest World of Warcraft streamers on Twitch and he saw incredible growth on his channel over the past two years following the release of World of Warcraft Classic. Last year in 2020, the streamer was overwhelmed with his success as a streamer and wanted to take a break. He announced his decision to take another break today stating he has “gone back and forth about this for the past few weeks” which caused him to miss a lot of days of the streamer. He said he has “a lot of different reasons why too much to list out in a tweet.”

Why Is Asmongold Take A Break?

There has been a lot of discussion on why he quit streaming to take a break on online forums and one of the recurring points that his viewers brought up is toxicity. Whenever Asmongold tries to play a game that is not World of Warcraft, his viewers become toxic towards him. This is a behavior pattern not only recurring on Asmongold’s stream but also with other streamers who try to move out of their favorite games.

Some Reddit users cited some of his most recent streams on his alt accounts where moderation is lax. His viewers started flaming him for not playing World of Warcraft. Some of the viewers also talk about how it is Asmongold who is toxic just to defend their actions. Rust is one of the breakout games of this season and a ton of content creators are heading to the OfflineTV servers to cash in on the hype. The developers of the game are also hosting special sales to promote the game and offering rewards for watching the game’s streamers. Asmongold decided to stream the game and was met with disapproval from some toxic fans.

While he has not explicitly stated that the reason behind him taking a break, the speculation around his break suggests that his recent experience with Twitch is one of the most important reasons. While it is completely acceptable to ask streamers to play a game of your choice as a viewer, it is unacceptable to be toxic towards another person for choosing to play a different game that they want to grow their audience in. He is not the only streamer to face such hostility with other high-profile streamers like Valkyrae facing the same kind of toxicity when she tried playing Rust recently.
