Team Liquid, EG, OpTic Gaming, FaZe Clan and 100 Thieves may be fierce rivals across various esports, but the teams are singing from the same page by urging people to join the fight against racism in the USA following the death of George Floyd - the latest victim in a recent string of killings of African Americans at the hands of police officers.

Floyd's death has prompted massive protests and riots across the country. Several North America based esports teams have now taken a stand against this issue.

Evil Geniuses

EG released a statement on Twitter expressing condolences to Floyd and other victims of racial injustice. The Tweet also requested their followers to “stand up and demand change” in their communities.

100 Thieves

100 Thieves made a statement on their social media platforms condemning the murder of Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and other victims of similar incidents. The organization also made it clear that it stood for “diversity and inclusivity, and is against racism in any form” and encouraged people to express their protest and find ways to make a difference.

Team Liquid

Team Liquid retweeted a post from its founder and Co-CEO, Victor “Nazgul” Goossens who expressed his thoughts on the situation with an article. Here’s a brief summary of the article:

  • His heart goes out to the people protesting, who are fighting for a better world.

  • He states that justice must be brought to the murderers of Floyd, and any other law enforcement officers who display racism, unnecessary violence, or other forms of misconduct. This might cause a change in the actions of the police force.

  • Unfortunately, he is not sure if this outrage will last long enough to affect real change and will donate USD 10,000 to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Legal Defense Fund, a civil rights law organization fighting for racial injustice through litigation, advocacy and public education.

  • He also stated that people should not be forced to speak up about this and while he would appreciate it if someone did speak up, he wouldn’t appreciate them any less if they didn’t.

FaZe Clan

FaZe Clan also called the police’s action against Floyd, “an unacceptable act of racially charged violence” and announced that all the funds collected from the sale of their new merchandise will be donated to the memorial fund in his name.

OpTic Gaming

OpTic Gaming left a simple message on their Twitter account stating that the act against Floyd was evil and that he should be alive today.

Several prominent esports personalities like Richard Lewis, Slasher, Redeye, LD, Kyle have also expressed their displeasure, against this incident on their social media ids.
