Esports degrees have slowly begun becoming a norm in multiple countries across the world. Malaysia, USA, and the United Kingdom are just some of the countries that offer college degrees in the field of esports.
It looks like The Philippines might also be joining that elite list, soon. Filipino Organisation Tier One Entertainment has is finalising an esports curriculum, at the Lyceum of the Philippines University according to CEO Tryke Gutierrez.
The proposed program will be a four-year Bachelor of Science in Esports degree. It will also feature two tracks of study: Game design and Esports management.
Gurierrez also clarified that this will not be an easy degree, stating:
“I'm giving you a heads up that this course is not going to be easy, it's not going to be just about fun and games. I've been in this industry for too long to understand that it takes more than passion in order to achieve what you want to achieve in this field. You need hardwork, sacrifice, skills, professionalism and many more.”
The curriculum is reportedly 80% complete and will be submitted to the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in March 2020 for approval.
