One of the few sponsored teams in the NA Dota 2 region, CR4ZY has just released its Dota 2, CS:GO, and Rainbow Six Seige rosters citing the “pandemic, uncertainty, limited travel, region lock, and the new situation in esports” as the primary reasons for this decision.
CR4ZY Releases Its Dota 2, CS:GO and Rainbow Six Seige Rosters
The contracts of Kurtis "Aui_2000" Ling, Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann, and the other Dota 2 players alongside the rest of the players under the CR4ZY organization had their contracts terminated on September 30.
CR4ZY explained this decision by stating that this was made due to the ongoing pandemic which has caused a lot of uncertainty in the world of esports including cancellations of tournaments like The International 10.
“At the beginning of 2020, our goal was to expand into what we considered most opportunistic esports disciplines: CS:GO, Dota 2, and Rainbow Six: Siege. For the most part, the teams did their best to meet the expectations, but soon the world became a much different place due to the COVID-19 pandemic which is still, even 9 months later, forcing the globe to adapt to the evolving situation.
Esports was no exception. While trying to manage this situation to the best of our abilities, we weren’t willing to risk our players’ well being and them possibly getting stuck in a foreign country indefinitely in the case of a lockdown. Tournaments we were hoping to attend switched to online, and most of them changed their format to regional which forced some of our players to play with severe disadvantages such as high ping and time difference. Despite the obstacles, we managed to pull through, and our teams improved considerably while waiting for big announcements such as the future of The International 10 and other esports competition. Unfortunately, those things didn’t happen and we were put in a position where we had to make some tough decisions.“
CR4ZY added that for the rest of 2020, they will be focusing on smaller esports projects and products as well as developing the strategy for the upcoming year.
CR4ZY’s Dota 2 team secured runner-up finishes in The Great American Rivalry Season 1 Division 1, BTS Pro Series Season 3: Americas, and ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: North & South America. Other than this, the team also secured six Top 4 finishes during their tenure with the organization. In fact, their only non-Top-4 finish came at their only LAN event: StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 3.
CR4ZY’s Dota 2 team at the time of release was:
- Jonathan Bryle "Bryle" Santos De Guia
- Maurice “KheZu” Gutmann
- Kurtis "Aui_2000" Ling
- David "MoonMeander" Tan
It is unclear whether the team will be sticking together following their departure from the CR4ZY organization.
