SabeRLight-, Chessie and Seleri reveal some of the hate messages they received after losses.
Previously, PPD and ViCi Gaming also complained about betting and death threats earlier in 2015

Dota 2 is a game in which you get emotionally invested regardless of whether you’re playing the game or watching professional matches. Dota 2 fans are quite passionate, which is usually good for the wellbeing of the professional scene. However, sometimes they get carried away and cross all boundaries. Earlier on Friday, NiP offlaner Jonáš "SabeRLight-" Volek complained about the ‘borderline death threats’ that he was receiving from fans which sparked off a flurry of discussion about this matter.

Death Threats Against SabeRLight- and Other Dota 2 Pros

A couple of days after NiP’s loss against Vikin.gg, the team’s offlaner SabeRLight- complained about a few toxic messages he received on his Twitter profile. His wording alluded that these weren’t the first threats he received on Twitter after a loss.

He also stated that his friends have received worse threats.

Following this, former OG.Seed player Rasmus Johan "Chessie" Blomdin also posted one of the threats he received, stating that he receives them every other loss. He also added that he thought that this was because of online betting.

Vikin.gg captain Seleri also chimed in with a Tweet showcasing abuses targeted at him due to him being a Vegan.

Previous Complaints About Death Threats By ViCi Gaming and PPD

Death threats and personal insults are, sadly, old news to the Dota 2 scene. Sheer hatred and cyber-bullying are the price players have to pay ever so often, in order to reach and engage with their fans directly and build their brand.

Earlier in 2015, ViCi Gaming complained that they were receiving death threats and other vile videos on their social media handle following a loss.

NA captain Peter “PPD” Dager had also complained about betting and death threats, earlier in 2015.

It is unfortunate, that these death threats have become so commonplace in Dota 2 esports. A lot of these threats likely originate from agitated bettors. Whatever the case may be, for the love of Icefrog, don’t issue such threats to players over a game! Or over anything, really.
