Fan favourite and NiP Captain Peter “PPD” Dager recently hosted a talk show on his Twitch channel featuring Caster/Streamer Grant "GranDGranT" Harris and Former EG Carry Mason "mason" Venne.

The North American trio spoke at length about a number of recent developments in the world of competitive Dota 2 including the ESL One LA Major 2020 Qualifiers, the proposed DPC changes, and the locations of the upcoming TIs.

One of the more interesting topics that PPD discussed, was the coronavirus situation in China and how it looks like Chinese teams are unlikely to compete in the ESL One Los Angeles 2020 Major and the Starladder ImbaTv Dota 2 Minor. The NiP captain brought up an interesting point regarding this, he stated:

“I think we’re F***ed. If the Chinese teams don’t get in, then you try to replace them, who do you bring? Do you bring Liquid… Do you bring Nigma? Do you bring Zoomies from NA? Regardless of what you do, the Integrity of the DPC is totally ruined.

...

As somebody who is playing at the Major… I feel like this is a huge opportunity for us to catch up to other teams in DPC points. Especially our rivals: Liquid, Alliance and Nigma, etc who managed to get points in previous events, when we didn’t.

So if they’re all going to get free spots even though we beat them in the qualifiers, we’re just going to need so many more points. China as a region entirely is going to be missing out on 3 maybe 4 Major spots of points for this season. How do you balance this?”

The player then talks about how the Galaxy Battles II was revoked of its DPC status and how that cost his team back then (OpTic Gaming) a direct invite to TI8. He then proposed a solution, which he then admitted was going to aggravate a lot of teams/players including himself.

“What if they just removed DPC points from ESL LA?”

If this solution was implemented, then it will completely change the landscape of this year's Dota Pro Circuit. The significance of the other two majors which are yet to happen will increase monumentally since the overall number of points you can obtain, in a DPC season will decrease dramatically.

TI Champions OG who took a break for the first two majors of the season will also be put in a position of jeopardy since they will only have two shots at claiming DPC points for this season. Considering the stacked European Qualifiers, it will be an unenviable position.

So it is unlikely that Valve will implement these changes. However, on the off chance that they do, they need to be prepared for the pandemonium that will follow.

With the 3rd Major and Minor of this season, inching closer and closer, it looks like Valve will have to come forth and make a decision sooner rather than later.
