Former Dota 2 Pro Retires from the Game to Pursue League of Legends

Albanian Dota 2 Player and popular Twitch Streamer, Ylli ‘garter’ Ramdani has announced his retirement from Dota 2 competitive scene. He has also stated that he will be making a switch to League of Legends. 

According to the player, the “broken” MMR system and the flawed Tier 2 scene are the primary reasons for this sudden switch. 

Garter has been playing Dota professionally since 2007, becoming one of the most well known Albanian Pro Players and one of the most popular Twitch streamers out there. He has played with some of the best European pro-Dota 2 players including Sébastien “Ceb” Debs, Michael “miCKe” Vu, Neta “33” Shapira, and Aydin “iNSaNiA” Sarkohi.

After several relatively unsuccessful stints in many different regions (CIS, South America, Europe) the player has finally decided to make a shift to League of Legends.

The player made a long Twitlonger post, revealing the reasons behind this decision and his future plans.

Garter criticized the flawed Tier 2 system which allows large established teams to poach players from aspiring teams, which hinders them from transitioning into a Tier 1 team.

“Any high level or even $500 salaried team can poach any player from your team at any given time – mid season, one day before qualifiers, mid event even, The most recent example is (Danil “Dendi” Ishutin’s) stack who won a tournament and a day later (Alexey “nongrata” Vasilyev) was poached by Team Spirit which possibly ruined a team with potential.”

He also criticized the unstable tier 2 scene and commented on the risk of participating in smaller tournaments.

"You can't count on the money won (in small tournaments) because they just don't always pay out. I am owed at least 5 digits worth of money that I will never see. Funds for anything less than tier 1 teams don't exist anymore so the sponsors aren't interested."

The player also criticized the MMR system, bashing the toxic nature of pub games.

“There have been so many changes and inconsistencies that result in either one hour queue times or extremely unbalanced free-for-alls. I am a 2 account 8kmmr player (top 100 EU on two accounts) but I can not play my role because X random 4kmmr guy decides that he is somehow more important and takes it. This is mostly coz ppl are tired of the system, the constant changes and general toxic community.”
