Pro Players, Talents, Teams React to Ancient Replacing Train in New CS:GO Update

The huge CS:GO update which released on May 3 2021, hit the community by surprise as Ancient replaced Train on the Active Duty Map Pool. There were 2 parts to this change, first being the removal of Train which honestly no one was prepared for, and second being the arrival of Ancient that many professional players have not even played once. There was a huge uproar within the community as everyone expected Mirage to be on its way out, in order to make way for Cache that had been out of action since March 2019. Here are some reactions both good and bad, from a few players, talents, teams and other community members that very well represent the reception this update received.

Players, Talents, Teams, Community React to CS:GO Update

The Liquid rifler Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski initially celebrated the removal of Train, while happily stating that “CS:GO actually making a change to make me more excited these days with something new”. But after playing his first game he did have a few things to complain about.

Former EG rifler Tarik "tarik" Celik asked the audience how was the new Ancient map, while admitting that he had never played it. He also shared a GIF teasing how the CS:GO developers were feeling in 2021.

Owen "smooya" Butterfield who currently plays for Movistar Riders went ahead to make a joke out of the whole situation also.

Swedish legend Ninjas in Pyjamas Patrik "f0rest" Lindberg expressed that he was excited with the arrival of the new map, calling it “super refreshing”.

One of the best players in the world Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev, who initially stated “what is this map fellas” went on to share a bug that his teammate Denis "electronic" Sharipov had found.

Australian CS:GO talent Chad "SPUNJ" Burchill also had a lot to say about the update, after being the first one to hint towards the upcoming change. He was basically all for the change and went on a rant explaining how the community did not want to accept the map without even trying it.

Counter-Strike content creator Voo took a different approach as he came forward to explain the possible reason behind Train being dropped out of all the maps in the Active Duty Map Pool.

The CS:GO organizations like Ninjas in Pyjamas and Cloud9, welcomed the change with open arms. While CLG made a snide comment saying that “April fools was a month ago”. BIG came forward with a genuine questions asking “Is this because we finally started playing Train?”

The overall mixed bag of reactions were not too extreme on either ends. Yes, there was a bit of an uproar initially but it all died down as more people started playing Ancient, accepting it as a viable map that does need to undergo a lot of fixes and some adjustments. 

Over the next few months, the newly added map similar to how Vertigo was carved and made perfect for competitive play, will be undergoing a similar process. Let’s see how the map turns out to be a few months down the road.
