Lucas "Bubzkji" Andersen who is the sixth player for Astralis recently spoke about his role within the Danish roster during a press conference ahead of the IEM Katowice playoffs, that was covered by HLTV. The 22-year-old Dane who used to be the specialist on Nuke for Astralis mostly replacing Andreas "Xyp9x" Højsleth, had not played on the map against mousesports in the currently ongoing IEM Katowice 2021. This incident had raised a few eyebrows and Bubzkji has finally come forward to explain the reason behind the decision, while also clearing everyone’s doubt about his role within Astralis and the team’s changing ideology behind the six-man roster.
Bubzkji finally talks about his role within Astralis
Astralis has repeatedly been called out by the CS:GO community for wasting Bubzkji’s potential by keeping him tied to their roster as a sixth player and not utilizing him properly. Many have even targeted them saying that the team has lost its own path on how to operate a six-man roster, especially Duncan "Thorin" Shields who has publicly criticised Astralis on the topic multiple times.
Addressing the issue himself, Bubzkji has finally stepped out and spoken about his role within the Astralis roster saying that the organization’s approach towards their six-man roster changed after Valve decided that teams would not be able to make mid-match substitutions. These rules will be followed across all events under the 2021 RMR circuit, including the PGL Major Stockholm 2021.
“I won't really just play one map — I can now play multiple maps.” says Bubzkji, “It's kind of hard to do it the way we have when Valve limits it, so we're trying to work on solutions around it. We have something coming up — maybe not in the [IEM Katowice] playoffs, but after the playoffs, from Pro League, I think we're going to see me coming in to do some work."
This means that Bubzkji will be seen playing more for the Danish side across different maps in the coming tournaments, but his past performances on Nuke have not been really good which could hamper Astralis’ chances to win those tournaments.
Speaking on this Bubzkji said that “I think it was no secret that some of the roles on Nuke weren't perfect for me, and I also think that maybe hindered my performance a little bit, so now we're going to try again in a new way. I think the way we're going to do it now is going to work better for both them and me."
It will be interesting to see what Astralis has in store for all of us in the near future. A victory at IEM Katowice 2021 would be a great start towards the upcoming roster experiment, as it would relieve a lot of pressure. The Danes are scheduled to go up against VP on 26th Feb at 23:00 IST.
