The entire CS:GO community praised Natus Vincere for winning BLAST Premier: Global Final 2020 yesterday on 24 January. The CIS roster put up a valiant fight at the event, dropping down to the lower bracket early only to win five matches in a row and become the champions.
This was a big win for Na’Vi who had last won a tournament almost a year back, IEM Katowice 2020. The atmosphere was electric and it all became too overwhelming for Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev who got a bit emotional after registering a dominating ‘2-0’ victory against Astralis.
S1mple Gets Emotional After Winning BLAST Global Finals 2020
The MVP (Most Valuable Player) of the tournament s1mple, led Na’Vi from the front and played the role of a star player to the maximum. There was just no stopping s1mple who crushed teams one after the other, attaining an overall rating of 1.41 with 340 kills across 14 maps.
He had a K-D difference of +116 which goes on to show what a monstrous form he was in. Also, the player with the second most number of kills Kirill “Boombl4“ Mikhailov had 262 kills, 78 kills less than s1mple. With the Ukrainian star taking 0.89 kills per round, it seems impossible for any team to have defeated Na’Vi.
The lower run bracket with five consecutive do-or-die wins made this victory even more surreal for Na’Vi. On the final day of the tournament the CIS lineup went up against two of the best teams in the world, Vitality followed by Astralis. Fans had complete faith in the team, showing up in huge numbers to set a new record for peak concurrent viewership for online CS:GO matches.
With each member of the lineup stepping up to the occasion across both the semifinal and the final, one could not have asked for a better performance from Na’Vi. All this was too overwhelming for even the ‘God of Counter-Strike’ to hold himself back and s1mple shed a few tears of happiness as soon as the match came to an end.
The community applauded the team’s effort and were ecstatic to have seen this performance by Na’Vi. Though there is still a big doubt if they would be able to carry this level of performance through the year. At the very least, fans are hoping for Na’Vi to replicate the same in the next few tournaments. It will be interesting to see how the team moves forward in the next few months!
