Oceania is the first out of the five regions which will be inaugurating the event with its Playoffs set to take place from 18th-20th December, featuring a prize pool of $1,500 USD.

The four invited teams from the region are some of the best tier-two teams from Australia and New Zealand. Control Esports, Downfall Gaming, Paradox Gaming, and VERTEX Esports Club are all set for the main competition, having accepted their respective invites.

Joining these four teams will be GroupChat, SYLYX, Bizarre, and do milk, who are making their way into the playoffs through the AUNZ Open Qualifier, which came to an end two days back on 12th December.

Together these eight teams will be competing for a total prize pool of $1,500, but the online competition will be cutthroat as only the top two teams will be walking away with the cash prize. The winners will be receiving $1,000 while the runners-up get their hands on $500, the rest will be ending the year having learned something with a desire to come back and compete again in 2021, hopefully on LAN.

The direct invites might have had it a bit easy securing a spot based on the reputation that they have built for themselves over the years, but the journey ahead will not be easy as they faceoff against some determined teams who have fought through the open qualifiers which featured a total of 30 teams.

The top four who made it to the playoffs were:

  • Bizarre
  • SYLYX
  • GroupChat
  • do milk

Each one of them gave their best, and the overall competition was quite intense.

This buildup to the playoffs has been incredible, and hopefully, it will result in a close-fought series going ahead. The main event for the Oceania region is set to start this Friday and will be played over the course of the entire weekend, it will be interesting to see who comes out on top as the regional champion from the land down under!
