French CS:GO Curse Finally Lifts After BLAST Premier Fall 2020

The long impending ‘French Curse’ has finally been lifted following G2 Esports victory over Astralis in the finals of BLAST Premier: Fall 2020 Regular Season. With the ‘Group - C’ matches coming to an end, both G2 Esports and Vitality have won their respective groups to qualify for BLAST Premier: Fall 2020 Finals breaking the long impending loss streak of French lineups losing in the finals of a CS:GO tournament and hence lifting the curse!

G2 And Vitality Finally Lift The French Curse

G2 and Vitality had combined lost seven finals of different CS:GO tournaments since the year started finally breaking this curse at BLAST Premier Fall 2020 by winning their respective group finals and directly qualifying for the main event. This was certainly not an easy task as both the teams had to undergo individual changes to get rid of this curse.

Vitality

Vitality with a complete French roster lost the finals of BLAST Premier Spring 2020, cs_summit 6, ESL One Cologne 2020, and DreamHack Open Fall 2020. Following the series of second-place finishes Vitality decided to expand their roster to a six-man lineup as they brought in the 19-year-old Belgium rifler Nabil "Nivera" Benrlitom and almost instantly broke the curse to achieve a ‘2-1’ victory against BIG at BLAST Premier Fall 2020.

Previously Vitality had lost to BIG by a ‘2-3’ scoreline at cs_summit 5, while also facing two loses against Heroic and one against Complexity. Vitality seems to be in a better position now having tested Nivera in a few competitive matches and maybe a few more victories await them before the year ends.

G2 Esports

Unlike Vitality, G2 Esports have lately not been consistent at all and all their second-place finishes have come early on in the year at IEM Katowice 2020, ESL One: Road to Rio, and DreamHack Masters Spring 2020.

Since June the team’s performance greatly dropped until BLAST Premier Fall 2020 where they made their way to the finals through the lower bracket and handed Astralis a ‘2-0’ defeat to finally win their second tournament of the year. But in order to get out of their slump, G2 Esports had to sign Nikola “NiKo” Kovac from FaZe Clan and it proved to be a worthy signing as he carried G2 on multiple maps to help them lift the ‘French Curse’.

Both Vitality and G2 Esports have turned over a new leaf, with plenty of tournaments still left to be played out before the year ends it will be interesting to see if either of them can win more tournaments moving forward or do they go back to missing out on the wins.
