WESG 2017 - Team Previews: ?Alpha Red – The Underdogs in Group D

Shounak SenguptaPublished On:
One of the few Dota teams from Thailand, Alpha Red will be representing their country at WESG 2017. Certainly one of the underdog teams at the event, it will be an uphill battle for Alpha Red even during the group stages.

The Squad and recent results

The squad is made up of some known names in the Thai Dota scene with the names like MyPro, tnt and Aoun in their roster. Not to mention they are being coached by an SEA veteran, Lakelz. However, the team has not been in the best of shapes in recent times. At the APAC finals, they placed in the top 8 after beating Pakistan’s Eximious Esports but they ended up losing to Team Kazakhstan and couldn’t make it into the top 4. In other SEA tournaments, they did win OQ #3 in the EPICENTER SEA Quals but placed last in their group with defeats against Geek Fam and BOOM ID. Even in JDL Season 12, they placed at the bottom half of the table in Division 1.1 and have to face the playoffs to continue maintaining their spot in the top division.

Forecast at WESG main event

At the main event they will be playing from Group D and will go up against the Chinese side Rock.Y, Indonesia’s EVOS Esports and Ukraine’s UAshki. They are definitely the underdogs in that group with all 3 of their opponents better on paper. Rock.Y were the winners of the APAC Quals while EVOS are a top Indonesian team with the likes of Aville and ilLogic. UAshki have some big names from the CIS region like Iceberg and Mag playing for them making Alpha Red’s path extremely difficult. However, since the first phase has only bo1’s Alpha Red can pull out some surprises if they prepare well. Since two teams from each group will move on to phase 2, their chances are slightly higher.
