Although it might not be the first Major of the season this time around, ESL One: Hamburg 2018 is poised to be the first ‘big’ LAN of the post-TI8 season, taking place from October 23-28 just before the Minor’s Main Event kicks off on October 29th.
The first direct invite for ESL One: Hamburg 2018 goes to the winners of the 2017 edition of this tournament, Virtus Pro.

After a relatively disappointing 5th - 6th place finish in The International 8, the CIS juggernauts will be looking to hit the ground running, to make it 3 wins in a row and secure a 4th Mercedes Benz for the team. While this year’s ESL One: Hamburg might not be a part of the Dota Pro Circuit calendar, it is nevertheless a prestigious event to win. A win here will also give Virtus Pro momentum towards the first Major of the Season which kicks off just 2 weeks later on November 8th, 2018.
ESL One Hamburg 2018 is set to take place from October 23rd to 28th, in the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany. The event will feature 12 teams and a brand new format:
2 groups (6 teams each)
BO2 Round Robin (10 group games per team)
Bottom 2 teams from each group get eliminated
Double elimination playoff bracket
4 teams in upper bracket (1st/2nd places from groups)
4 teams in lower bracket (3rd/4th places from groups)
BO3 matches up until the finals which will be a BO5.
Which promises spectators great entertainment value as well as giving teams ample chances to showcase their skills in the first premier tournament of the season.
