DreamHack has released the details for both Open and Closed qualifier for the upcoming Stockholm Major and while there is still some time to go before we get into things, here’s what we know for now.
The Stockholm Major features a prize pool of 1 million dollars along with 15,000 DPC points and will take place in March from the 14th to the 24th. In attendance, will be 16 of the world’s best teams who will make it there from their respective regions, via the closed regional qualifiers.
But before we get into the regionals, each region will have 2 Open Qualifiers, running from January 24th to 27th. This, of course, does imply that any team playing at the Chongqing Major, which is taking place at the same time, will get a direct invite to their respective regional qualifier.
Each qualifier will send forward the 2 top teams to the Regionals. The Opens will follow a bo3, single elimination format, with no limit onto the number of teams per qualifier. All 6 regions will stick to the following schedule.
OQ #1: 24th Jan - Till RO16
OQ #1: 25th Jan - Till top 2 teams are decided
OQ #2: 26th Jan - Till RO16
OQ #2: 27th Jan - Till top 2 teams are decided
The closed qualifiers will feature 8 teams per region, with 4 coming from the OQs and 4 being directly invited. The list of invited teams was supposed to be announced on the 7th but there has been no update as of now.
SA/CIS/SEA Regionals will take place from the 1st to the 3rd of February while NA/EU/China will take place from the 3rd to the 6th.
The format for the Regionals will be a 2 group GSL system used to seed into an 8 team double elimination. The Stockholm Major will also have a Minor preceding it but nothing has been announced so far. However, from the information available it is likely that Starladder will be conducting it.
