The ongoing China Dota 2 Supermajor maybe the last DPC tournament of the season, but it doesn’t come as a surprise, that a lot is on the line here. With it being the last chance for teams to grab DPC points and also the event with the most DPC points to offer, there certainly was a chance for some last-minute shockers. However Secret’s win over OpTic means that 3 more teams are now confirmed for TI8.

7 out of 8 teams decided for TI8 direct invites

Realistically Mineski, Vici Gaming and Newbee were all relatively safe and only a series of upsets and unpredictable results would be able to knock them out of the top 8. OpTic were actually one of the teams who needed to place well along with TNC and VG.J Thunder for that to happen. However, all three teams are now in the lower bracket meaning that only one of the DPC top 8 spots are now open for contention. Mineski, Newbee and Vici Gaming are now guaranteed to be in the top 8. Team Liquid, PSG.LGD, Secret and Virtus.pro were already confirmed for TI8 prior to the event and unsurprisingly all 4 teams have looked solid in the tournament.

TNC, OpTic Gaming and VG.J Thunder to fight for the last spot

VG.J Thunder occupy the 8th position currently and both TNC and OpTic have a chance to take their spot should either of them place well at the event. The fact that all 3 of these teams are now in the lower bracket makes the situation all the more tense for all 3 teams now. A very unlikely scenario can also see The Final Tribe surprise everyone but going by their past performances, it will need a miracle.

TNC will need to place in the top 2 if they are to have any chance of qualifying to TI8 while for OpTic and VG.J Thunder, the battle is mostly with each other as the NA side trails the Chinese side by a mere 135 points.
