Fnatic temporarily subs in 343 for PieLieDie

Fnatic has decided to sub in Adam “343” Shah in place of Johan "PieLieDie" Åström for the upcoming StarLadder ImbaTV Invitational Season 5 in an attempt to “further develop the team's cohesion and shot calling”, the organization announced earlier today via a Facebook post.

This is quite a bold move by the SEA roster as they are now elegible to receive only 75% of the DPC points from the event. Adding this to the fact that this is only confirmed appearance of the 6 remaining DPC LANs, this might be a decision that Fnatic would later regret.

One cannot help but wonder if this is a tryout for 343; as earlier this season, Fnatic wanted to remove PieLieDie, but refrained from it as EternaLEnVy said that they hadn't given PieLieDie any warning that he wasn't performing well enough and needed to improve. They may be aiming for a permanent change, (as long as they perform better with 343).

But we might be wrong, perhaps they are trying to emulate Team Liquid from Dreamleague Season 8, and are actually trying to “develop the team's cohesion and shot calling”. Will this gamble pay off in the long run? Only the future will tell us more.

The StarLadder ImbaTV Invitational Season 5 kicks off on 11th April 2018. Currently, Fnatic are on 884 points. Even if they win the Minor, Fnatic will receive 112.5 QP per player, which will increase their season total to 1,221 QP, which still isn’t enough for a spot in the Top 8.

What do you think of Fnatic’s decision to sub in 343 for Pieliedie? Is it worth the risk? Or was the team better off playing with PieLieDie? Be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments down below.
