Just when you think you’ve seen everything that Pro Dota 2 has to offer, something unprecedented turns up and shatters that illusion.
In one of the most baffling Dota 2 endings we’ve ever seen, SEA representatives BOOM ID called “GG”, while their own creeps were base-racing the enemy team (and winning) to lose Game 1 of the BO3.
The game was very intense as both sides were focused on a team fight happening at the 49-minute mark, in BOOM ID’s base. But BOOM ID’s creeps were in the opposite base doing their best to win the game for their side. BOOM ID ended up getting teamwiped, but unfortunately for them, they seemingly didn’t notice their creeps taking down that Dire throne and called “GG”. They also had a glyph of fortification available to themselves and ended up not using it.
Analysts and fans have already dubbed it as the biggest throw ever.
It proved to be a major factor in deciding the series as they ended up getting eliminated from the tournament, after winning Game 2 but failing to win Game 3 to finish the series with a 2-1 scoreline. They thus finish in the last place and go home with a paltry 20 DPC points and $7,500 in prize winnings.
At the end of the day, If they didn’t call ‘GG’, they would have actually gone through to the next round and doubled their prize winnings and DPC points. Perhaps pro teams will be more careful about disconnecting/calling ‘GG’ henceforth.
In other happenings, Playmaker Esports were also eliminated as PPD’s NiP ruthlessly dispatched the South Americans in a 2-0 stomp which didn’t even last a full hour.
On the other side of the bracket, EHOME quite simply outclassed their Chinese brethren Keen Gaming with better execution of drafts and teamfights to easily secure a 2-0 win.
This series can be summarised with this one highlight. Keen Gaming had the advantage and all these immaculate plays and setups, but EHOME simply overwhelmed with their superior execution.
Finally, OG’s losing streak against Gambit continued with the Russians pulling off yet another sweep to make it 5 wins out of the last 5 meetings between these two sides.
Today will see yet another two teams getting eliminated from the Bucharest Minor, but we will also figure out the first team who makes it to the grand finals.
