Day 3 of the ESL One: Hamburg 2018 held a few surprises for fans and spectators and provided us with some great action. Here’s a short recap of what transpired on the final day of the Group Stages.

Group A

Group A remained the same after day three as both Team Secret and ViCi Gaming kept their upper bracket spots with 8-2 records.

Evil Geniuses and paiN Gaming qualified for the lower brackets after their decent run in the Group Stages. EG tied their match 1-1 against Alliance, who needed both games to just stave off elimination. Their elimination is quite surprising as they were one of the best teams in Europe in the Kuala Lumpur Major - European Qualifiers.

Mineski joined Alliance and EVOS in elimination. They were sent home after a 2-0 loss at the hands of ViCi Gaming.

Group B

Team Aster finally dropped a game at ESL One: Hamburg 2018 after Forward Gaming pulled out their signature support Ursa in the final game of the Group Stages, ending their streak and finishing with a 9-1 record. Forward Gaming finished with a 5-5 record and secured a spot in the lower brackets.

Virtus Pro also qualified for the upper brackets after an 8-2 showing in the Group Stages, compLexity Gaming seized control of their fate as they stepped up to the plate against Ninjas in Pyjamas. The first match took a whopping 81 minutes and finally ended in favour of compLexity. The second match took about 50 minutes but was mostly in the hands of the North Americans for the entire time. With their sweep over NiP, coL lived to see another day and eliminated the Swedish team from the event.

Following the top eight being finalized at ESL One Hamburg, the top four teams faced off in two separate matches to decide who would remain in the upper bracket. Virtus.Pro went up against Team Secret, while Team Aster faced off against ViCi Gaming. After a thrilling set of matches, it was VP and VG that prevailed to find themselves a spot in the upper bracket finals.

VP will now play ViCi Gaming in the upper bracket finals when the time comes. While, Secret now await the winner of EG vs. compLexity, who play in round one of the lower bracket tomorrow. Aster will take on the winner of Forward Gaming and paiN gaming.
