All you need to know about this year's TI Open Qualifiers

15th, Jun, 2017
The biggest event of the Dota calendar takes place in August and this year’s TI is set to bigger and better than ever. With the prize pool steadily climbing and closing in on the 15 million mark, we are on the road to break another milestone this year. And while the money may be huge, the prestige, the honor and the opportunity to rewrite the history books are things that cannot be given a price tag. As usual, Valve’s TI competition can be won by anyone across the world. The format not only recognizes notable teams who have been doing well in the Dota circuit but also allows for practically any team in the whole world to play their way all the way to the finals and take home the Aegis. This concept is implemented through the Open Qualifier system, the details of which were announced just yesterday.

As usual, SEA, EU, CIS, NA and SA Open Qualifiers will be conducted by FACEIT, while the China one will be done by Perfect World. All the regions will have 2 Open Qualifiers, the winners of which will be moving into the regionals. South America will have 4 teams advancing from 2 OQ’s ie the top 2 from each time. Additionally, another team from SEA, EU, Americas and China will be given a slot in the regionals based on qualification from the Champions Cup.

The Champions Cup

FACEIT will be hosting The Champions Qualifier, an alternative route to The International 2017. The Champions Qualifier is an invite-only tournament for winners of the EU, NA, and SEA Tier 8 Champions Cup within Dota2 and starts on the 21st June 2017. Sign-ups will start 15th June 2017 at 1800 CEST.
The invited players will be required to form teams with other invited players and compete to take a step closer to The International 2017 in August 2017.

Dates and details for the Open Qualifiers:

·         Each OQ will be a 2-day event.

Don't have a team? Not to worry .... Queue Solo

For those unable to find a team to play in the Open Quals, there is a system in place this time around. FACEIT’s team finder application helps connect players and teams with specific filters based on roles, skill level, location, country etc. It’s an excellent tool to meet like-minded people, connect and form your own team.

But that’s not all, solo sign ups are also possible this time around. Each player will be matched with 4 other players to form a team of 5 that can play in the OQ’s.
