Stage 3 Champions Gambit Esports has made it to playoffs along with two other European teams Fnatic and Team Liquid. Gambit along with Sentinels were regarded as the two biggest contenders for this year’s world championships but the competition is stiffer than anyone anticipated. Sentinels got knocked to the Decider bracket while Gambit Esports barely made it out alive against a deadly Team Vikings squad.
The European Stage 3 champions had to scrape through an overtime victory on map three to qualify for the playoffs. While a lot of the focus has been on the European and North American teams since the last two Masters events, South American Valorant teams have earned fan respect with stellar performances throughout the event so far.
Things started off smoothly for the Stage 3 champions with Nikita “d3ffo” Sudakov and Timofey “Chronicle” Khromov securing crucial kills to get a comfortable victory. While the first half was competitive, Vikings was not able to keep up with d3ffo and Chronicle’s aggressive gameplan and lost the match 13-6.
Vikings secured an early 5-0 lead in the first half and refused to let go of the lead. While Gambit did snatch some closely contested rounds, the first half ended 8-4 in Vikings’ favor. Gambit eventually succumbed to the pressure in the second half with Matias “Saadhak” Delipetro and Gustavo “Sacy” Rossi helping Vikings end the match with a resounding lead.
Gambit and Vikings duked it out all the way into overtime. Vikings started with a 3-0 lead and the team was on track to win the match, but Gambit managed to stay in the fight and eventually secure a hard-fought 14-12 victory.
