Riot Games announced that it is partnering up with Xbox to release its biggest PC and Mobile titles on the Xbox Game Pass this year. Marc Merrill, Co-founder and President of Games at Riot Games announced this during a surprise segment at the Xbox & Bethesda 2022 Games Showcase on yesterday. All Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to unlock all champions in League of Legends, and as well as all Valorant agents. In addition to this, they’ll also get perks for Riot’s mobile titles including all champions in League of Legends: Wild Rift, Foundation Sets in Legends of Runeterra and a selection of Little Legends in Teamfight Tactics.
Players will also receive bonus experience across select titles when they link their Riot and Xbox accounts. Riot has not yet revealed when players will be able to get their hands on these perks but they can expect it to go fully online in winter.
Joe Hixson, Senior Director & Head of Corporte Comms at Riot Games took to Twitter to clarify some of the doubts regarding its implementation:
Players won't lose access to anything they have unlocked if they let their subscription expire.
“We’ve always respected Xbox’s relentless push to drive gaming forward, and we’re proud to add our games to the Xbox catalog through Game Pass. We’re also thrilled to welcome Xbox players into Riot’s ecosystem of diverse and passionate gamers across the world”, said Riot Games president Marc Merrill in a statement on Xbox Wire.
While this is great news for newer players of League and Valorant, longtime fans of Riot's titles are likely to have grinded enough to unlock these perks. The announcement also comes as a disappointment to console players who are still waiting for Riot to release their popular FPS shooter, Valorant for Xbox.
