Nexplay Esports has undergone a massive revolution. The catalyst for this was a disappointing run at the Mobile Legends Professional League (MPL) Philippines (PH) Season 7, where the team barely made it out of the group stage before being immediately eliminated in the playoffs.

The team was reborn as Nexplay EVOS in June 2021. Formed in partnership with a well-known esports organization in Indonesia, EVOS Esports, the new roster is composed of the stalwarts from the previous Nexplay Esports roster along with some new faces which include the upcoming rookie, Jhonwin “Hesa” Vergara, and head coach, John Michael “Zico” Dizon.

The partnership served as a fresh new start for Nexplay and is seen by many as a crucial step to reinvigorate the team for the upcoming MPL PH season. Despite the team admitting they still have flaws, Nexplay EVOS confidently waves its banner high and is prepared to take on the toughest challenges in the upcoming tournament.

A new look for Nexplay EVOS

The new partnership certainly turned heads, as two historic names in the Mobile Legends scene in the Philippines and Indonesia had joined hands. Nexplay EVOS’ head coach, Zico explained how the dynamic had changed, following this announcement. “I’m super excited but at the same time pressured because, of course, EVOS is a world champion, a very big brand and we get to partner with them. So, I’m pressured but it’s fun since we get to scrim and share ideas with them,” he said.

Nexplay EVOS is composed of the same formula that has previously been found very successful for them. This includes the former fielding the team’s “Big Three” -, Renejay "RENEJAY" Barcarse, Tristan "Yawi" Cabrera, Jhon "H2wo" Salonga, along with James "Jeymz" Gloria in this season’s roster. However, the team also brought in some fresh reinforcements by recruiting former Omega Esports pro player Jeniel "YellyHaze" Bata-Anon to the squad with Setsuna "Dogie" Ignacio also taking up a much more active role in its lineup.

The team also recruited young rookies— Hesa and Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya. Hesa also expressed his excitement, stating, “I’m amazed because we get to partner with EVOS. I’m also excited to play, no pressure.”
