Garena has officially announced that one of its most prestigious esports events, the Free Fire World Series (FFWS) 2022 is scheduled to kick off in May 2022. The tournament will start with the play-ins on 14th May leading to the grand finals on 21st May 2022. The FFWS 2022 is the third edition of the title’s highly anticipated global tournament, which features the world’s top-tier Free Fire teams competing for the glory of the championship title. The regional qualifiers for the FFWS 2022 will be held in the coming months to determine which teams will proceed to the main event.

Despite Garena’s struggle in hosting physical esports events amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the FFWS 2022 remains one of the highly anticipated mobile esports events in the world. However, It is still unclear whether the event will still be held offline, similar to the previous iterations of the world series. Fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for more updates.

Garena is working on bringing back the usual offline Free Fire esports events. However, the publisher still prioritizes the safety of its participants and will be taking the necessary precautions to keep the staff and the pro players safe and healthy in a similar manner to the previous world series.

The FFWS 2021 broke records as one of the most-watched esports events

Last year’s Free Fire event, the FFWS 2021 Singapore (SG) saw a phenomenal viewership of 5.4 million concurrent online viewers, according to Esports Charts, making it one of the most-watched tournaments in the world. The tournament was held offline at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

The Thailand team, Phoenix Force was crowned the champions of the FFWS 2021 SG and took home the $500,000 USD prize money. The team is the first ever Thailand team to claim a championship title in the prestigious esports event with 48 kills and a total game score of 113 points.

Brazilian Free Fire team, LOUD finished the FFWS 2021 in second place with 77 points and claimed a $250,000 USD cash prize.

The Free Fire esports scene continues to grow as more promising teams and organizations enter the exciting competitive scene as Garena continues to deliver high-class Free Fire tournaments all over the world. It will be interesting to see who will dominate the upcoming FFWS 2022 and claim the championship title.
