In a thrilling showdown at Suntec City Mall, Atrium (Tower 1 and 2), Team Flash emerged as the unexpected champion of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League Singapore (MPL SG) Season 6. With SGD 100,000 on the line, eight professional esports teams showcased their skills in the Season 6 Playoffs, captivating fans with their prowess and determination. The victory came as a shock to many, as the underdog team dethroned the formidable RSG Singapore (RSG SG), earning not only the coveted title but also a ticket to the prestigious M5 World Championship set to be held in Manila, Philippines.
Team Flash Shocks fans with MPL SG Season 6 Victory
Team Flash, often labeled "rejects" in the MPL Singapore esports landscape, boasts a roster of veterans who had previously competed in rival teams since Season 1. Despite the doubters and the "retiree" tag, Team Flash defied expectations to secure its first local championship. Remarkably, this victory marks Bellamy "Lolsie" Yeov’s fourth local title win in a row. He played a pivotal role in RSG SG's previous three championship victories before being loaned to Team Flash for a season.
The Grand Finals of MPL SG Season 6 witnessed a record-breaking peak concurrent viewership of 67,407, eclipsing the previous record set in Season 4, according to a report from Esports Charts. This historic showdown delivered thrilling moments, including Jaymark "Hadess" Lazaro's epic backdoor play in Game 5 and Team Flash's base narrowly avoiding defeat in Game 6, thanks to an outstanding defense by Adam "Adammir" Chong.
While RSG SG had a strong start, Team Flash mounted a spectacular comeback to the delight of their fans who watched from dawn to dusk, having already fought a fierce battle against EVIL in the Lower Bracket Finals earlier that day.
Eugene "Kayzeepi" Kong, Team Flash's Analyst, reflected on their miraculous journey: "It is quite a miracle. We pulled off from 1:3 all the way to 4:3... we took out things that we usually don't, and we still managed to do it because we trust each and every one of our players."
Coach Remas "Remaniscent" Hong added, "We formed this dream team to win the championship but didn't know what to expect when we headed in. There have been a lot of challenges, there have been a lot of doubts, but overall, we still managed to pull it off."
This season of MPL SG was the most competitive yet, with several teams undergoing significant roster changes. Newcomers Homebois Singapore secured a respectable fifth place, while EVIL and Vanguard Esports claimed the third and fourth spots, respectively. Bleed Esports landed in sixth place, and Alchemy Singapore and Stellark Singapore shared the joint-seventh position.
