Bren Esports secured a 2-1 win against the defending champions Blacklist International in the seventh week of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines (PH) Season 9. Bren Esports’ amateur standouts Kenneth "Saxa" Fedelin and Vincent "Joy Boy" De Guzman spearheaded Bren Esports with dominant late-game presences in each game despite facing a minor setback in the second game. Through a post-match interview, Bren Esports’ jungler Saxa and EXP Laner, David “Flap” Charles Canon admitted that they were overconfident and let their guard down during the second game allowing Blacklist International to gain the advantage and open a third deciding match.

Bren Esports takes down Blacklist International in a fight for a playoffs spot

Blacklist International was put in a bad situation when Bren Esports took control of both jungle lanes. This prevented Kent “KEVIER” Xavier Lopez’s Ling from farming efficiently and he was eventually left behind as Bren Esports established complete control over the whole map. With Marco "SUPER MARCO" Stephen’s Clint at his peak performance, Bren Esports closed the game with a dominant victory over the defending champions.

Bren Esports almost had the upper hand in the second game. However, Kenneth "Saxa" Fedelin mispositioned himself at the 12-minute mark which cost his team to lose four members and a Luminous Lord. This allowed Blacklist International to use the Lord to its advantage and swiftly close the match with a victory and open a third deciding game.

Bren Esports misplayed and almost got wiped out.

Blacklist International had the early game advantage due to Bren Esports’ late-game focused draft. However, the defending champions weren’t able to finish the game early, allowing Bren Esports to scale massively in the late game. Despite Blacklist International having an impressive team fight presence thanks to Kiel "OHEB" Calvin Soriano’s Beatrix, Bren Esports’ dynamic duo of Saxa and Joy Boy proved too much to handle for the defending champions. The game closed with a 2-1 victory for Bren Esports.

Bren Esports wins the deciding match.

Flap admitted he became overconfident during Game 2

After a grueling match against Blacklist International, Flap and Saxa shed some light as to what caused the misplay during Game 2 which allowed Blacklist International to turn the tide.

Flap admitted that he let his guard down and became too overconfident which left Saxa vulnerable to Blacklist International’s ambush.

“Because I was too hyped, my teammates got affected, just like what happened to Saxa in the mid lane,” explained Flap.“ I feel like it was my fault.”

Saxa felt he was also responsible for the team’s loss during the second game due to his mispositioning.

“When EDWARD kicked me, I knew right there that it will be my fault if we lose, that’s what I was thinking,” said Saxa.

Despite the misplay, they remained positive and believed they could win the third game. For Flap, winning the deciding game weighs more than thinking about their mistakes in the previous match.

“It was crucial but it already happened. We already lost. So, we need to recover in game three,” said Flap.

Bren Esports will continue to compete for the playoff spot as its next match will take place in the eighth and final week of the MPL PH Season 9. The team shall go up against Omega Esports on 8th April.
