Is Clash of Titans an Arena of Valor Clone?

Actoz SG recently announced a new upcoming mobile MOBA title Clash of Titans. The game is expected to be released shortly. While the game is published by Actoz, several of the mobile MOBA title’s promotional posters highly resemble Tencent’s Arena of Valor (AoV). The Titans seen in the posters are identical to the heroes found in AoV, while the skins and in-game map presented are also similar. Clash of Titans is marketed as “India's first-ever mobile MOBA game,” with major titles like Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) and League of Legends: Wild Rift currently not being available in the region.

Clash of Titans' artwork resembles Arena of Valor

India’s mobile MOBA fans received exciting news with the announcement of a new mobile MOBA title arriving in the region soon. Not long after the announcement of the mobile MOBA title’s arrival, fans noticed that the promotional images resemble heroes found in Tencent’s Arena of Valor. The app’s icon is the face of the hero Thane.

The Google Play Store version of Clash of Titans also revealed a few images where AoV heroes can be seen including the iconic hero Arthur and some of his skins.

It should be noted that Clash of Titans has not officially revealed gameplay or in-game footage of the title up until now. It will be interesting to see if the gameplay aspects of the new title is also similar to Arena of Valor.

Back in September 2020, Arena of Valor was banned in India along with over 118 Chinese mobile apps which included popular mobile esports titles such as PUBG Mobile and MLBB. The ban was a result the government citing that they were prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of the state and public order.

Following the ban, the publisher’s behind PUBG Mobile, Krafton, announced a new mobile Battle Royale title under a new name called Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI). This was a PUBG Mobile clone in terms of gameplay mechanics. The game went live in July 2021, welcoming both veteran and new players in the region.

Who is the developer of Clash of Titans?

Singaporean-based publisher Actoz SG, a subsidiary of South Korea’s video game publisher Actoz Soft, is tasked with releasing Clash of Titans in India. Actoz Soft’s controlling stake is owned by China-based company, Shengqu Games since 2004, according to its official website. The company is known for popular online games such as Dragon Nest, Final Fantasy XIV, and Fallout Shelter.

According to a report from IT Home, Shengqu Games signed an agreement with one of its shareholders, Tencent back on 29th Nov 2021 that gives the company rights to publish, promote, and operate Tencent’s games on its platform.

Officially neither the developers nor the publishers of Arena of Valor and Clash of Titans have offered an official statement on Clash of Titans’ resemblance to Arena of Valor.

Regardless of whether Clash of Titans is an Arena of Valor clone or not, it will be interesting to see if this new mobile MOBA title finds success in the ever-growing mobile esports scene in India.
